FBSA Operating Policy
Revised bat eligibility rule (revised 8/3/10)
It will be illegal to use a bat that has a barrel larger than 2 ¼" with a drop of more than -10 OR ANY BAT SPECIFIED AS A COACH PITCH BAT REGARDLESS OF DROP WHEN USING A REGULATION BASEBALL
For example, if a bat has a barrel of 2 5/8" or 2 ¾" (which is legal), and has a length of 28", the weight cannot be lighter than 18oz. A bat with a weight of 17.5oz or less will be considered illegal for this length.
If the bat has a drop of more than -10, the barrel cannot be larger than 2 ¼".
For example, if the length of the bat is 28" and the weight is 16oz the barrel must be no larger than 2 ¼"
To calculate the drop of a bat, use this formula (bat weight - bat length = drop)
THIS CHANGE WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR THE 7U LEAGUE AND ABOVE. 5u and 6u will still be able to use "big barrel" bats/coach pitch bats with drops more than -10 due to the use of non-regulation baseballs.
APPLYING TO ALL AGE GROUPS AND LEAGUES WITHIN FBSA, ANY BAT WITH A BPF (BAT PERFORMANCE FACTOR) GREATER THAN 1.15 AS DEFINED FOR BASEBALL BATS BY ASTM STANDARDS WILL BE CONSIDERED ILLEGAL.
ANY FURTHER RULINGS ON ELIGIBILITY OF BATS SHALL BE AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF FBSA AND CAN BE MADE WITHOUT NOTICE***
